Phantasy Star Online or PsyO 2 is a science fiction massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by SEGA. It is the sequel to the 1994 Phantasy Star series.
In the game, players can explore and battle in a sci-fi environment. A standard 1–4 class system and a customizable protagonist allow players to create their own unique character. Combat in the game is turn-based, with player-versus-player (PvP) interactions, in which players must work together to defeat bosses. Players can make alliances, allowing them to fight against other players. PvP can also be accessed in a deathmatch mode.
Phantasy Star Online 2 is available for Microsoft Windows in both Japanese and English versions. Phantasy Star Online 2 was released for the Sega Dreamcast, with a game called Phantasy Star Online: Evolution Edition for the Nintendo 64. The Dreamcast version was released in Japan and Europe, while the 64 version was released only in Japan.
Story
The game takes place after the events of Phantasy Star IV, which took place in the year 1,024, ten years after the events of the first Phantasy Star. In the game, the player is a member of the Overworld Defense Forces (ODF) stationed on the planet Eden, which is a part of the Eden System. The Eden System is an uninhabited planet, which lies in the Eden Stellar Cluster and is ruled by the planet Elda, a massive alien enemy. The player's goal is to create a self-sufficient village, which will survive and become an independent town. To create a town, the player must collect a number of common resources to meet a set quota. These resources are needed to construct buildings, such as houses, warehouses, and factories.
Gameplay
The game is a role-playing game, where the player controls the character of a person called an Ark Operation. In the game, players can explore the world in a first-person perspective, which allows players to look at objects and people in their environment. The environment is populated with NPCs that follow scripted events and interact with the player as they explore. There are a variety of NPCs with whom the player can talk to. Some NPCs, such as hunting experts, may give the player advice and help. Others may offer to share their items for a certain price, which can be in the form of money, experience points, or items.
